About – recipehearts
Maria

Hi, my name is
Maria!

And recipehearts is my little corner of the internet!

I grew up in a tiny kitchen in Portland, Oregon, and my first “restaurant” was the family dining table. In 2015 I was working full‑time as a graphic designer, but every weekend I’d host pot‑luck dinners for my friends. The joy of turning a handful of pantry staples into something comforting made me start jotting recipes in a notebook. By early 2017 I turned that notebook into recipehearts, a simple blog where I could share the dishes that kept my friends coming back for seconds.

Fast forward to March 2025, and recipehearts now serves more than 75,000 unique visitors each month. I’ve published 260 recipes, ranging from quick weeknight pastas to slow‑cooked holiday roasts, and my monthly newsletter boasts 12,300 subscribers. In 2023 I released an e‑book titled Hearty Meals for Busy Hearts, which has sold over 4,800 copies. I also love collaborating with local farmers in the Blue Ridge region, featuring seasonal produce in a quarterly “Farm‑to‑Table” series that has become one of the site’s most‑read sections.

I now call Asheville, North Carolina home, where I live with my husband, two rescued dogs, and a thriving herb garden on our back porch. My favorite ways to unwind are hiking the Pisgah trails, brewing a strong cup of coffee, and Sunday brunches where I experiment with new sauces while the kids set the table. When I’m not in the kitchen, you’ll find me curled up with a good mystery novel or planning my next weekend market visit.
